Love on the Snow

Italy - 2007 - Mini DV - Colour
Length: 16’ - Language: No dialogue
Regia: Margherita Detomas, Massimo Tommasi
Editing: Massimo Tommasi
Production: Margherita Detomas, Massimo Tommasi

Sometime in the 1940s, the University Circle of Bolzano - as it does every year - meets to spend a day skiing in the Siusi Alps between Sassolungo and Sasso Piatto. For one day, students improvise as actors and directors, using 16mm color cameras. The result is this original film which has never been seen before. Showing the emergence of skiing as a leisure time pursuit, early ski equipment, and first ski lifts, it also hints at the beginnings of winter tourism in the mountains. The tale of spending time with friends ultimately leads to a tender love story. After sitting in a drawer for decades, the film was found and remounted by Massimo Tommasi, a project overseen by Margherita Detomas.
